"How does he achieve this independence? He does it by means of a continuous activity. How does he become free? By means of constant effort. …we know that development results from activity. The environment must be rich in motives which lend interest to activity and invite the child to conduct his own experiences." - Dr. Maria Montessori (The Absorbent Mind, p. 84)
The term "Nido" comes from Italian, the native language of Maria Montessori, meaning "nest". When entering our new campus you will be greeted with a home-like feel. Our little school is an inviting space for infants from three months to eighteen months to move about and explore this world freely, using all their senses. Our classrooms are set up to create a safe space for all infants. When walking into the classroom you will find all of our shelves and works are close to the ground to be easily accessible to the students, as well as low furnishings creating a safe place for loved babies to reach new milestones. We keep our classrooms free of clutter. The materials offered foster concentration and problem-solving techniques.
Development starts at birth! During the first 3 years of life, a child’s brain develops much faster than any other time. We foster each child’s interest and interaction with the materials. We do not limit times for exploration in the classroom. Each child is freely able to access work from our shelves and work with it for as long as they see fit. We do not limit times for lunch or eating. Here at Kinder Haus Nido we prepare the children to listen to their own bodies and decide when they are hungry, tired, or need to get some wiggles out. Our teachers and staff work according to the children’s schedules, as we truly follow the child, echoing Maria Montessori's own ethos.
The Nido Campus has recently opened as an annex to the main Kinder Haus Montessori Campus in Mandeville, located just a few blocks from the main office at 430 N. Causeway Boulevard, located conveniently for Causeway Bridge travelers and all of Mandeville.
